I seldom ate lunchbox bought from 7-11, a very popular convenient store in Taiwan, since Mom always cook for us. But, sometimes if I am busy I grab a box from 7-11. It is easy, quick and cheap.
This kind of lunchboxes are simple but you still have many options. If you are a vegetarian, you can choose a vegetarian box. Inside this lunchbox on the picture, there are a fried pork slice, half of a Chinese-herb stewed egg, some pickled vegetables, some sausage slices, a little bit seaweed, and a little bean curd bi-product(the redness). Outside the lunchbox we were given (actually we took it from the shelf by ourselves) a pair of chopsticks.
I also bought a box of milk-tea (a bit refreshment but not too strong for lunch) with this lunchbox. Sometimes we get discount with this combination. In total, these are only 50 NTD (about 1.5 USD or equivalently 0.83 GBP).
Imagine if you are so busy and sometimes hardly have a proper lunch and dinner, you might call for a takeaway to deliver to your house. A takeaway normally cost you at least 3 pounds if you only want some chips and one portion of fried chicken. In some places this price is even impossible. But in Taiwan, lunchboxes with only 0.83 pounds is a universal price, you can pay a bit more to have a better one; however, it is not always necessary since you wouldn't even have much time to enjoy it. Think about the chips and fried chicks (or if you prefer 5 pounds a portion shish kebab) are mostly greasy and of course unhealthy. Compare with this lunchbox, it has certain vegetables although some of it is pickled - much more healthier then the British fast foods. Plus, the price even includes a drink.
How would you like to have a try? Come to Taiwan then!
